The "Perfect" project is an ongoing effort that got its start as a perfect storm of circumstances that have recently come about in my life.
The first was a challenge from a very well known and respected museum curator upon reviewing some of my fine art nude work. The observation was this: When you have the perfect body, the perfect breast or the curve of the perfect hip, combined with ideal lighting conditions and sound photographic techniques you can’t help but to get a good shot, the law of averages is on your side. My work was found to be derivative, and as I have always tried to emulate the works of the masters when looking for a direction of my own. I could see the point.
The second was during a conversation with a dear friend and helpful critic, about a series of nude studies I had done recently using my wife as a model, and how happy I was with the results. Her reply, while not surprising, did start a conversation. She said that there was no way she would ever let anyone photograph her in the nude, with her ass and her cellulite. “I’d have to go to see a plastic surgeon before I would even entertain the idea.”
My only thought was that, just like my wife, so many women are perfect just the way they are, but have so many false beliefs about their bodies, that they just can’t see past them to recognize the real beauty that is there.
And finally I remembered something my father told me over 30 years ago when we still lived in Mexico, and I had just told him that there was some girl that I didn’t like because I thought she was ugly. He stopped what he was doing, looked me in the eye, and said something like this… “Son, there is so much depth to the power to give life, and the power to sustain life, that God has given women, that no man will ever be able to understand it, and the best you can do is to enjoy and admire the beauty in women.”
So in essence that is what I’m trying to do here, this is my new series of nudes and semi-nudes where I will show the innate beauty of everyday women, the mothers, daughters, friends, etc.
If you have been invited to this site, please consider being a part of this very important project. You could be that woman who thinks she’s a little on the heavy side or not tall enough or too shy, but when you smile, you light up the room.
I’m looking for real women who know that they are beautiful and have been waiting for that chance to show it, my hope is that this document will help eliminate the stereotypes that modern society has placed on what constitutes a beautiful woman, and to show the beauty in real women.
Please take a moment to look at the project's progress in the "perfect project" gallery, under the galleries tab, and to read the testimonials below.
Comments from some of the "Models"
"I had plenty of time to become nervous and develop performance anxiety. However, the moment I entered the room and Efren began speaking it all melted away and I felt a level of comfort, in front of the camera, I had never felt before. Efren is not only a very gifted photographer but clearly appreciates the female form on such a deep level that any woman who is fortunate enough to be in front of his camera will see herself as the beauty she truly is. "This was my first experience working with a professional photographer, much less standing in front of a camera “naked as a jay bird”. Surprisingly, this experience left me feeling quite sexy once I got passed the shock and awe. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did."
..."A little scary at first, considering I was fully exposed, but Efren’s professionalism and kindness made me ultimately feel at ease. I would do it again…!"
-Leslie
"Was one of the most liberating things I've ever done! More so than bungy jumping. Was even better than therapy!"
-Zan
" I don't think I expected it to be as truly fun as it was. I don't like myself in photographs to begin with, but then being naked too...! But I really did have fun with it!
...In the end, I felt incredibly proud of myself and I realized that the pictures are who I am! "

"The final images took by breath away! I wanted everyone to see me! At 45 years old it was the first time in my life I saw the lines and shapes of my body as they really are. Not too big or too small but rather the curves and shapes of a lovely female form. THANK YOU EFREN!"

"I have never considered myself to be photogenic, so I have some insecurity there. A little while into the shoot, I began to stop worrying about the camera and just relaxed and had fun. After a while, I felt more relaxed than I thought I would. It was very empowering, and I felt so beautiful I never wanted to put on clothes again. I would do it again in a heart beat, too bad I didn’t realize this when I was 18."

"OMG.....I was utterly shocked at what Efren was able to capture. I was only praying that he would come up with a few good shots. There were certain images of each of us that I thought were breathtaking. There really is a genius hiding behind that lens!"
"It was a very liberating experience. Efren is a true professional and made this process very lovely, warm and extremely comfortable."
